LLM Connections (OpenAI, Claude & Perplexity)
Manage the OpenAI, Claude, and Perplexity connections Accoil uses to write summaries, supply your own API key, or disable a model entirely.
Overview
Accoil uses large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI, Claude (by Anthropic), and Perplexity to help turn complex behavioral data into clear, natural-language insights.
LLMs are used to generate summaries—not to analyze raw data. All metrics and engagement signals are still generated internally by Accoil. The role of the LLM is to take an anonymized set of insights and translate them into easy-to-read summaries that help teams understand the full context behind user behavior.
This guide explains how to manage these LLM connections, including:
- Disabling them
- Using your own API key
- Understanding how and where they're used
What these LLM connections do
When Accoil generates a summary (e.g. for a company health workspace), we:
- Calculate all user and group metrics internally
- Generate structured insights based on behavior
- Send an anonymized version of these insights to the selected LLM (e.g. OpenAI)
- Receive a clear, written summary in return—ready for use across Accoil and other tools like Intercom or HubSpot
Why it matters
LLM-generated summaries help you:
- Sales: Turn engagement data into compelling narratives for outreach
- Customer Success: Understand account activity at a glance
- Support: Get readable context behind user actions—without digging through metrics
You’ll see LLM-powered summaries in dashboards, workspaces, and widgets where summaries are enabled.
Managing LLM usage
By default, all available LLMs are enabled for use in Accoil.
You can manage each LLM connection individually by choosing one of three options:
1. Use the default Accoil API key
This is the default behavior. Accoil will use our secure API connection to the selected LLM (e.g. OpenAI or Claude).
2. Use your own custom API key
If your company prefers to manage LLM usage through your own billing or access controls, you can provide your own API key.
- This gives you full control over LLM usage
- Your key will be used for any summaries or LLM-powered features in Accoil
3. Disable this LLM
This option completely disables the selected LLM for your workspace.
- That LLM will not be available for summary generation
- Any summaries or features relying on it will fall back to raw insights only
- The LLM will no longer appear in workspace settings or insight preferences
This is useful if you need to restrict usage for compliance or policy reasons.
Privacy & data handling
All data sent to LLM providers is:
- Anonymized (no user names, company names, or identifying fields)
- Limited to structured, pre-processed insights, not raw events
- Sent only for the purpose of generating the summary you requested
You retain full control over which models are used and when.
How to configure
- Go to Settings > Connections
- Click on the model you’d like to manage (OpenAI, Claude, or Perplexity)
- Choose your preferred API mode:
- Use the default Accoil API key
- Use your own custom API key
- Disable (do not use this connection)
- Save your changes—Accoil will apply your preferences immediately
