Understand dashboards and metrics

Learn how suggested dashboards, custom dashboards, metric cards, and the Metric Library work together in Accoil.

Written by Simon Herd

Dashboards bring Accoil's product metrics together in one place. Each dashboard is a collection of metric cards that help you investigate a product question, such as how active your customers are, which features they use, or how activation is changing.

Suggested dashboards and custom dashboards

Accoil includes suggested dashboards to give teams a useful starting point. The current suggested dashboards are:

  • Activation

  • Active

  • Engagement

  • Events

  • Features

  • Home

  • Retention

  • Segments

  • Signups

Suggested dashboards are provided by Accoil. They cannot be deleted and do not count toward a workspace's dashboard limit.

Custom dashboards are the views your team creates for its own work. You can create one from scratch, duplicate an existing dashboard, choose whether it appears in the dashboard list, and add the metric cards that matter to your team.

What is a metric card?

A metric card is an individual piece of a dashboard. It can show a summary, chart, table, or another view of a metric.

Metric cards make a dashboard flexible: a team can start with a suggested dashboard, then create a custom dashboard containing the metrics it uses most often. Some cards have their own settings, such as the level of detail in a summary or where links in a table open.

What is the Metric Library?

The Metric Library is where you browse the metrics Accoil can show. It provides a description of each metric, related metrics, and controls for the context being viewed. From the library, you can add a metric to a custom dashboard.

The library and the dashboard editor are two routes to the same outcome: assembling a view that answers the question your team has.

How dashboards relate to events, features, and activation

Events, features, and activation are still important parts of Accoil's data model and configuration. Dashboards are the main place to analyse them.

  • Use events to represent individual product actions.

  • Use features to group related events into meaningful product capabilities.

  • Configure activation criteria in Workspace settings.

  • Use the Events, Features, and Activation dashboards to analyse the resulting metrics.
