Understanding Users and Accounts
Understand how individuals and organizations are represented in your workspace, and how active users and accounts are determined.
In Accoil, Users and Accounts are the foundational objects that allow you to understand how people interact with your product. This structure powers segmentation, scoring, and insights across your workspace.
What Is a User?
A User in Accoil represents an end user of your product — someone who signs in, takes actions, and interacts with your app in a meaningful way.
- These are not your teammates or internal staff using Accoil
- Instead, Users are your customers — the people whose behaviors you're analyzing to understand engagement, onboarding, and retention
Accoil recognizes a User based on:
- A unique identifier (e.g. user ID or email)
- Event activity (actions taken inside your product)
Active Users
A user is considered active in a workspace when they trigger at least one scored event during the relevant period. A scored event is included directly in that workspace's score or belongs to a feature selected for scoring.
Active status is workspace-specific. An event that is received by Accoil but is not included in a workspace's score does not make the user active in that workspace. The same user can therefore be active in one workspace and inactive in another.
What Is an Account?
An Account in Accoil typically represents a company, team, or organization that users belong to. In a B2B product, multiple users often share a single account.
Accounts are used to:
- Group user activity together
- Analyze behavior and engagement at the organization level
- Measure things like account health, adoption, and activation
Active Accounts
An account is considered active in a workspace when at least one associated user triggers a scored event during the relevant period.
This allows you to understand:
- Which accounts are currently engaged with your product
- Where activity is dropping off
- How usage trends vary across companies, not just individuals
